In June 2024, during the 54th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Asunción, Paraguay, IPADES held an art exhibition highlighting the critical human rights situation in Nicaragua. Organized as a visual advocacy intervention, this activity aimed to raise awareness among decision-makers, diplomats, and civil society members about the repression and human rights violations occurring in Nicaragua amidst its social, political, and economic crisis. This exhibition is part of IPADES’ efforts to promote memory as an essential component of transitional justice.

Silkscreen Exhibition on Nonviolent Action in Nicaragua

The exhibition featured 16 silkscreen illustrations displayed at the Esplendor Wyndham Hotel in Asunción, each representing Nicaragua’s peaceful civic resistance and the inhumane treatment faced by activists and human rights defenders. Notable works included titles such as “#YoSoyPicoRojo,” “Los Aguadores,” and “Cacerolazos y Marchas,” all reflecting powerful moments in the struggle for justice and freedom.
